Role of a psychologist

May 29, 2019UncategorizedEudaimonic

There was a time during my under graduation days people looked at me quizzically on learning I was studying Psychology. It was a lesser known subject and mostly associated with mental disorders, not considered very respectable. I too often wondered whether I was doing the right thing. But then Chemistry was not my cup of tea not even coffee, so a course in science was out of the question. I heard my professors say that in the West the scenario was very different. Awareness was so high that in case of even a common cold people there first went to a Psychologist. I thought then that it was a great exaggeration.

Today decades and many experiences later dealing with myriad behavioural issues, the scenario is very different. There is an increasing recognition of body-mind connection in every aspect of human life. Psychologists are in demand. So much so that they are in short supply considering the number of people who want to consult them. Thus a Centre like this and the work it engages in remains very relevant especially in today’s times
